No Water: water may be the most obvious object when preparing to clean a car model, but water can actually do harm to the models, especially on very old collectible cars. The car models are waterproofed that have usually been sealed with a varnish.
Non-abrasive Cleaners: you can't use plain, undiluted soap when washing a model car. Many detergents can leave a thin, filmy residue on a model car that can end up making the model look flat or dingy. If using soap when cleaning a waterproof model car, dilute the soap with water first. Petroleum jelly can also be used to clean model cars, provided the substance is completely removed with cotton or other non-abrasive material.
Dry Methods: when you use a keyboard computer dust cleaner on a model car, hold the cleaner's nozzle spray at least 3 inches from the model car to prevent fragile parts from snapping off or breaking from the force of the air. You should hold fragile parts when you're cleaning a model or taking them off the model if possible. The can of dust cleaner should always be held upright, and the model car should be placed parallel with the nozzle. This prevents the liquid from the cleaning leaking into the model.Soft paintbrushes and soft-bristled toothbrushes can be used to clean the surface of a model car. Very thin paintbrushes and cotton ear cleaning devices may be able to fit into smaller nooks and crannies to assist in cleaning the model car.
