The History of Diecast Car Models

Do you know diecast car models history. This article will give a brief glimpse of the history of diecast models.

Diecast toys were first produced early in the 20th century by the manufacturers in United Kingdom and United States. The first car models on the market were basic, consisting of  small car or van body with no interior. Before World War Two, diecast car models are difficult to find in good condition since it was common for impurities in the alloy to result in zinc pest.

Lesney began making diecast car models in 1947. Their popular Matchbox 1-75 series was so named since there were always 75different vehicles in the line.

In the 1950s, collecting diecast car models developed popularly, as the models’ detail and quality increased. As a result, more companies produced diecast car models.

Hot Wheels were introduced in the United States in 1968, to claim the complaint that there was not line of toys for boys to balance the line of Barbie dolls for girls. Therefore, Hot Wheels quickly gained an important niche in the diecast toy market.


Various companies began to use diecast vehicles as promotion items for advertising during 1960s. In additon, it was apparent that many diecast vehicles were being purchased by adults as collectibled in 1980s, not as toys for kids. Nowadays, collecting car models has become a pupular interest aroud the world.
